May’s President Message

Apr 25, 2026

A message from our President Joe Ianora

Ciao a tutti!

After 38 years in the school system, the month of May has always felt like the home stretch before summer. I have always loved this time of year — the warmer weather, the longer days, and the chance to get back out into the garden. My garlic is already growing strong, so that is always a good sign!

At the Colombo Club, this time of year also means our calendar is filling up with wonderful events and opportunities to come together. Before I talk about what is ahead, I want to take a moment to look back on some of the great events we have already enjoyed.

As you all know, April is Sausage and Peppers month, and it continues to be one of our most popular traditions. This year was no exception, with sellout crowds for both dinners. Our Family Dinner, which also recognized this year’s scholarship recipients, was another great success. Congratulations to all of our scholarship winners. They are an impressive group of young men and women, and we are proud to support them as they continue their education and pursue their goals.

Looking ahead, May and the summer months promise to be busy and full of activity.

First, please join me in celebrating our mothers. The Women’s Auxiliary is hosting Festa della Mamma, a celebration of mothers and all women, on Saturday, May 9th. It is always a special event and a wonderful way to honor the women who mean so much to our families and our Club.

Next, the Men’s Club will hold its annual Assembly Dinner on Tuesday, May 19th. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Club operations, ask questions, and meet the Board. We will also be inducting new members that evening, and I hope you will come out to support and welcome them into the Colombo Club family.

We also have our birthday dinners on May 14th (Men only) and May 28th (Coed), featuring pork roast and tortellini. These dinners are always a nice way to gather, celebrate, and enjoy good food and fellowship together.

As we move into summer, please be sure to mark your calendars for these upcoming events:

1. Father and Son Night in June will feature spaghetti and meatballs, always a favorite, on June 11th (Men only) and June 25th (Coed).

2. Our Bocce Tournament will take place on June 13th, so be sure to sign up and join in the fun.

3. Pizza Night for the whole family is set for June 20th. This promises to be a fun and memorable event for all ages, so make your reservations early.

4. July will also be a busy month, with Pot Roast and Pasta on July 10th (Men only) andJuly 24th (Coed), followed by a very special Past Presidents Dinner on July 25th.

A couple of reminders as we head into these busy months:

The Colombo Club is our home, and I ask that the guests you bring are people you would gladly welcome into your own home for a meal. From time to time, I have had to speak with guests about their behavior, and I want to remind everyone that we should all help preserve the respectful, welcoming atmosphere that makes our Club so special.

Also, as the weather gets warmer, please remember that the Club’s dress code remains in effect and will be enforced. Please take a moment to review it so there are no surprises if a Board member needs to speak with you about your attire.

I also want to sincerely thank every member who donates prizes for our Incentive Program. We have a few dedicated members who contribute month after month, and their generosity helps make that program possible. Your continued support does not go unnoticed, and it is deeply appreciated.

Lastly, if you have an idea for an event you would like to see at the Club, or if you would like to volunteer your time, please reach out to me at the email address below. Our Club stays strong because of members who care, participate, and step up to help.

I look forward to seeing you at the Colombo Club this month and throughout the busy summer ahead.

Ci vediamo!
